Tamale Indian hemp arrest followed intelligence-led operation

The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate arrested Karim on Friday, March 13, 2026.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Alhassan Luckman Niendow, said police acted on intelligence. He said officers monitored activities linked to the suspect before moving in.

“At about 1730 hours, the intelligence team moved to the suspect’s residence at Diare where he was apprehended,” the statement said.

Police said initial findings suggest Karim cultivated and supplied Indian hemp to markets in the Tamale Metropolis.

Search at Diare home led to suspected exhibits

Police said officers searched the suspect’s premises after the arrest.

They reported finding two and a half large sacks of soya beans. Police suspect the sacks concealed quantities of Indian hemp.

Police allege GH¢20,000 bribe offer during arrest

The Command said the suspect tried to offer GH¢20,000 to the officers.

Police said the officers rejected the offer and continued with the arrest.

Police say suspect named alleged accomplice

ASP Niendow said the suspect mentioned an alleged accomplice during questioning. He gave the name as Alhaji Moro.

Police said they are working to locate and arrest the person named. They said the move forms part of efforts to dismantle the suspected supply network.
