Rescue personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Headquarters responded to a fatal road traffic crash on the N1 highway near the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra on Monday, February 23. The Service said it received the distress call at 7:58 p.m., and the rescue team arrived at 8:14 p.m.
The collision involved a Kia motor truck (GG 1304-18), a Sprinter bus (GX 8325-13), and a Volvo trailer (GT 7856-20), according to the GNFS situational report cited by local media.
What responders found at the scene
Fire officers worked to free trapped victims and provided immediate emergency assistance. The GNFS recorded 21 casualties in total. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene.
Nineteen others were transported for treatment to Achimota Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital, the Service said.
How agencies handled traffic and safety risks
The GNFS said it coordinated with other emergency agencies to secure the crash site and prevent secondary incidents. Teams also cleared the roadway to restore normal traffic flow along the N1 corridor.
Authorities have begun investigations to determine what caused the crash, according to reports citing the Service’s update.
